

Harvey worked as a director in film and television for 30 years. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California and a master’s from California Lutheran University. Harvey did a theater apprenticeship while attending Kent State University studying engineering and chemistry. The Laidman house had a library, complete with shelves of books, a leather couch and sunny windows. She worked in the stations department of the Cleveland Public Library, delivering library services to prisons, jails and hospitals. His mother was a graduate of John Adams high school, a great accomplishment as she was an English Language Learner. Albert was a self-taught electrician, learning his circuits at the steel mills and railroads on the shores of the Cuyahoga River. His father attended school until the eighth grade. His parents emigrated from Eastern Europe.

When he is not teaching at ROA you can find him on his bicycle either at race or riding across the country. He first taught in the traditional classroom in Rowland Heights as 2/3 grade and 6th grade social studies teacher before coming to River Oaks. After graduating from UC Santa Barbara as an undergrad he attended Cal State Channel Islands for his teaching credential. He started his path in education as a counselor at the day camp he attended as a child.

Nick was born in southern California and has lived in the Pasadena area for most of his life. She lives in Simi Valley with her daughter and their cats, Lestat and Kieran. Some of Cara’s interests include sci-fi movies, dystopian fiction, helping her daughter create cosplay costumes, and belly dancing. Cara enjoys working with the River Oaks Academy staff and finds her work fulfilling in watching the students grow as individuals.

She will continue to homeschool her daughter as she starts working full time in the River Oaks Academy office this fall. Her daughter started attending River Oaks Academy in 2011 when she started her 6th grade year and Cara started working in the office of the school part time later that same year. Claudia is married and has three children, all three of whom are now off to college and to grad schools at various universities throughout the country.Ĭara Fairneny comes to River Oaks Academy with approximately 20 years of office experience and nearly 10 years of homeschooling experience. She loves to be outdoors and spend time with her friends and family. She still works extensively on various trainings with her dog.

During her free time, Claudia breeds and raises alpacas and was a member of the Ventura County Sheriff’s K9 Search and Rescue team, where she trained her Labrador puppy, Toby, to be a search and rescue dog. She had the privilege of working under the director and was able to participate in such important tasks as the WASC re-visit, board presentations, creating math intervention strategies, the graduation committee, and more. During her time there, she learned as much as possible about charter schools, measurement and curriculum. When her own kids started to approach college age, she decided to look for full-time work and found a position at a charter school in Ventura as the Curriculum and Assessment Coordinator. After teaching middle school and high school students at local public schools, she was approached by CLU to teach as a part-time adjunct faculty member in the German and English departments. She then went on to receive her single-subject teaching credential in English and her Master’s Degree in teaching from CLU as well. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English and German at California Lutheran University, where she graduated summa cum laude.
